Angela R. Key is a novelist of memory, silence, and survival. Writing at the intersection of Gothic inheritance fiction and psychological suspense, her work explores the dangerous edges of family, legacy, and the human mind’s capacity to curate its own truth.
Her debut novel, The Lies We Inherit: A Novel of Memory and Madness (Crown Cipher Publishing, 2025), introduces Elise Miriam Scott — a forensic investigator who returns home to claim her inheritance only to uncover curated silences, houses that remember, and a family who insists her memories cannot be trusted.
Born and raised in the American South, Angela grew up surrounded by stories of inheritance, silence, and survival. Her academic background in psychology and her fascination with forensic detail shape the precision of her prose. With every novel, she asks the same haunting question: what do we lose when memory becomes unreliable — and who profits from the silence that follows?
Angela writes from a place of deliberate intensity. Her work draws comparisons to Shirley Jackson, Gillian Flynn, and Tana French, while carving out her own voice as a Black woman redefining what Gothic thrillers can be. The Lies We Inherit is her first novel, but her literary vision has already been praised for its atmospheric depth, forensic sharpness, and unforgettable themes.
