Owen McLean understands permanence differently than most writers.

A tattoo begins as an idea and becomes something another person carries. A painting turns an empty surface into evidence that someone stood there and made a choice. Music disappears into the air but can stay with somebody for years.

Writing gives him another surface.

McLean’s work is interested in survival, creation, identity, pain, memory, and the strange human need to leave something meaningful behind. He is drawn to what people make after life has already marked them.

His fiction does not separate art from living.
